Colleagues
from across the IT industry are teaming up to support leading overseas aid
agency CARE International by taking part in the annual CARE IT 3 Peaks
Challenge on 12-13 June.

Once again,
the challenge will see teams from across the IT sector taking on the
three highest peaks in Scotland
(Ben Nevis, 1,334m), England
(Scafell Pike, 978m) and Wales
(Snowdon, 1,085m) all in the target time of 24
hours. The event offers corporate teams a fantastic teambuilding and networking
opportunity, with a well deserved dinner and awards following the challenge.

CARE’S
WORK

CARE is
currently assisting the people of Haiti following the devastating
earthquake on 12th January. This was the worst earthquake in the
region for 200 hundred years, affecting 3 million people- a third of the
population. An estimated 70,000 have died, with fears this could rise to
200,000.

CARE
responded to the disaster immediately. The organisation has 133 staff based in Haiti,
and has sent shelter and logistics specialists and a gender-based violence
advisor to assist the response effort.

CARE began
distributing aid within days, including water purification tablets, meals,
high-energy biscuits, mattresses, hygiene kits, tarpaulins, mosquito nets,
jerry cans and kitchen sets. CARE is working alongside other NGOs as members of
the DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee), to ensure aid reaches the right places.
CARE is already making plans for its post-disaster assistance in Haiti
to last at least three years.

HOW YOU
CAN HELP

CARE
Challenge Manager, Neil Munro, says “People are often moved by poverty and
suffering they see on the news, but it’s difficult to know how to help. The
CARE IT 3 Peaks Challenge offers people in the IT industry the opportunity to
turn their good will into concrete results, supporting CARE’s work not just in Haiti
but in over 70 poor countries worldwide. It’s a chance to challenge yourself
and challenge poverty.”

Funds
raised will directly support CARE’s work
. Ninety
pence per pound raised for CARE goes to support poverty fighting programmes
overseas- making every bead of sweat worthwhile!

If you
