BMC Software has acquired GridApp Systems, which specializes in the automation of cloud database provisioning, patching and administration.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

With the purchase, BMC is expanding its current offering of application, server, network and client configuration management to include database automation.

GridApp’s solution is designed to reduce the cost and complexity with deploying and configuring enterprise databases in physical, virtual and cloud environments. The GridApp solution is already integrated with BMC BladeLogic Server Automation and is currently in use by multiple joint customers, according to the press announcement.

GridApp’s customers include Bank of America, GE, Lockheed Martin and Merrill Lynch – the company also boasts partnership agreements with the likes of HP, Oracle, IBM and Microsoft.

Founded in 2002, GridApp raised $5 million in Series A funding back in 2007, from Ascend Ventures, Advantage Capital, Rand Capital and Gefinor Ventures.
